Job Title: Wellsite Geologist

Working pattern: 28/28

Contract duration: 12 months

Assala Energy is a young and dynamic Oil and Gas Exploration and Production company operating an active asset base onshore Gabon, with firm core values and a keen sense of responsibility toward our employees and stakeholders. As our business continues to grow and evolve, we now seek a Wellsite Geologist to join our team. This position offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in wellsite operations and contribute to the success of our drilling program.

In this role, you will work closely with the Operations Geologist and the drilling team to provide real-time geological interpretation and support during drilling operations. You will be essentially responsible for delivering high quality performance on the geological supervision on the wellsite during the drilling and completion activities. Your responsibilities go as well in the monitoring, coordination, quality control and reporting of all wellsite geological data. Beyond that, you will be in charge to ensure that the geological aspects of the project are understood by all the services companies under your supervision and present on the rig site.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Interpreting well logs and making geological correlations
  • Monitoring drilling parameters and identifying potential drilling hazards
  • Providing guidance and recommendations to the drilling team for optimizing well placement
  • Collecting and analyzing cuttings samples and preparing detailed geological reports
  • Collaborating with other members of the geological and geophysical team to integrate wellsite data into the subsurface model
  • Ensuring compliance with HSSE and regulatory requirements
  • Assisting with data management and documentation

We are looking for someone who is proactive, detail-oriented, and has excellent communication and problem-solving skills. A strong background in geology and hands-on experience in wellsite operations is necessary for this role.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Wellsite Geologist
  • Experience working on onshore drilling operations
  • Proficiency in interpreting well logs and geological correlations
  • Working knowledge of drilling practices and hazards
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe working environment

Benefits

We are a fast-growing company, requiring team members to quickly adapt and continuously contribute to the company's growing operations. Our asset portfolio has a high proportion of mature fields with complex geology, depletion and fluid displacement histories, presenting many unique geological challenges and opportunities.

This is a contract role for 12 months, offered on a rotational basis in Port Gentil with regular site-visits during the drilling campaign.
