Job Description

Job Title: Occupational Health Lead

Location: Gabon (Port Gentil amp; Site)

Role: Fixed-Term Contract (12 months)

We seek to employ an experienced Occupational Health Lead to spearhead our health initiatives in line with Assala's fit-for-purpose approach and expectations. In this role, you'll have the chance to roll out an effective OHM program across internal teams, enhance health consciousness throughout our supply chain, and contribute to the continuous improvement of local health facilities.

Some of your principal deliverables include:

  • Work with HSSE and HR management to ensure Assala health standards, processes and procedures are up to date, fit for purpose and comply with the company’s standards, regulatory and other commitments;
  • Identify and designate preferred clinics for contractor use, conduct regular audits to ensure they remain suitable for use;
  • Update fit-to-work clauses in contracts to specify clinic preferences, including identity verification procedures, required doctor evaluations, and medical examination criteria;
  • Ensure daily communication of personnel manifests to medical staff for accurate tracking of individuals present on-site;
  • Enforce policies prohibiting the use of traditional medicines within Assala premises;
  • Organize and conduct health campaigns addressing prevalent workforce health issues and promoting proactive healthcare measures;
  • Promote proactive healthcare initiatives, both on-site and off-site, emphasizing fitness and overall well-being among personnel;
  • Outbreak management and providing administrative support as required;
  • Arranging for transfer / MedEvac of employees and passengers to hospitals in emergency cases;
  • Oversee inventory management and certification processes;
  • Coordinate pre-boarding medical checks and implement substance testing programs;
  • Promote safety culture and provide personnel support;
  • Address complaints and promote health-conscious practices;
  • Manage staff recruitment and contractual analysis;
  • Conduct medical audits and contract scope examinations;

Requirements

You are a qualified Occupational Health professional, i.e. nurse or physician, who holds a recognized qualification of degree/masters in occupational health, combined with at least 10 years of practical experience in a similar role.

In addition to this you demonstrate:

  • High proficiency in establishing a comprehensive Occupational Health Framework across multiple locations, guaranteeing its suitability, auditability, and seamless integration with incident case management protocols.
  • A robust track record of giving occupational health advice, guidance and support to managers and employees on a range of conditions with varying degrees of complexity;
  • Excellent communication skills to engage with diverse stakeholders effectively in both English and French;
  • Leadership as well as influencing and coaching skills to assist with health and safety performance improvement initiatives and fostering a positive, safety-focused culture
  • Adept in conducting medical audits and reviewing contractual agreements as well as producing clear, legible concise procedures, case notes and reports on organisational health issues, ensuring compliance with confidentiality, professional standards and data protection legislation.
