We are now looking an inspirational and highly articulate HSSE Superintendent, with a wealth of experience in transforming existing practices to deliver a risk-based, fit-for-purpose and dynamic approach to HSSE Management Standards, Commitments and Objectives. This is a site-based role offered on a 28/28 rotational basis.
Reporting to the Group HSSE Manager, you will be responsible for providing daily supervision and support to the production teams and site leadership on workplace safety, health and environmental issues to maintain a high level of safety at the project sites and establish a strong HSSE culture. In this capacity, you will also conduct field inspections, assessments, incident investigations, training and reporting.
Key focus areas and value opportunities in this role include:
- Act as a safety leader and mentor for one of our larger operational sites in Gabon supporting day to day operations and specific projects where required.
- Be responsible for driving continuous improvement in health, safety and environmental performance at the site.
- Drive safety culture improvement
- Assess the HSE performance of our operations through field inspections and self-verification.
- Provide challenge, mentor and support to the production teams to deliver continuous HSE improvement.
- Lead and investigate incidents and near misses.
- Input and implement an annual HSE plan and KPI’s including leading and lagging indicators.
- Support and engage with site leadership in helping and establishing a strong HSSE culture.
- Lead contractor safety management on site
- Handle HSE reporting, training. and developing regular HSE performance reports.
- Communicate and train site personnel on Assala HSE management system documentation and processes including but not limited to Management of change, PTW, Risk Management, and Incident Investigation.
- Lead and coordinate regular HSE meetings on the site to review performance trends, insights, and findings.
- Provide leadership of regulatory requirements, HSE management system and procedures.
Requirements
- Graduate in Environmental Sciences/Engineering or related fields with 15+ years of proven HSSE experience in operational roles in the Upstream Oil and Gas Industry.
- Deep technical knowledge of HSSE and Business Management Practices including management standards, risk and assurance frameworks, performance monitoring, emergency response, incident investigations, root cause analysis, audit and assurance.
- As this is a role based in a Francophone country, fluency in French is required.
- Good understanding and application of international best practices including ISO and IFC Standards.
- Proven success in a similar role, ideally in Africa or in another emerging economy.
- You are self-motivated and have demonstrated excellent leadership and project management skills in previous relevant roles.
- Uncompromising outlook on HSSE, ethics and compliance with the ability to provide pragmatic technical solutions to safeguard the projects, people and environment.
- Culturally sensible, you appreciate the importance of excellent interpersonal skills in order to interact efficiently with internal and external stakeholders.
